Annular calcification is a degenerative process. [20, 21] A, J, U, or reverse C-shaped bandlike calcification is observed involving the mitral annulus. [22] Calcification can appear O-shaped if the anterior leaflet also is involved. Calcification appears bandlike and of uniform radiopacity compared to the nodular and more irregular opacity of mitral valve calcification, as shown in the radiograph below.
