Answer

Thrombolytic agents can be infused directly into an occluded vessel to dissolve the clot and recanalize the vessel. The American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association (ASA) Stroke Council has recommended that IAT may be of benefit if administered within 6 hours of acute ischemic stroke in carefully selected patients with occlusion of the MCA and who are not eligible to receive intravenous thrombolysis.
