Answer

In patients with suspected systemic lupus erythematosus or urticarial vasculitis, complement levels should be obtained, including total hemolytic complement (CH100 or CH50), C3 levels, and C4 levels. Patients with hypocomplementemic urticarial vasculitis syndrome, and less commonly in those with systemic lupus erythematosus, often have circulating anti-C1q antibodies with concomitant low levels of C1q.
