Which age groups have the highest prevalence of gonococcal arthritis?

In the United States, the highest rates of gonorrheal infection are found in persons aged 20-24 years. However, rates are also high in those 15-19, especially females. In addition, during 2015–2016 the gonorrhea rate increased in all age groups, as follows [4] :

  • Age 15–19 years: 379.8 per 100,000 population in 2016; 11.3% increase
  • Age 20–24 years: 607.5 per 100,000 population; 10.9% increase
  • Age 25–29 years: 450.9 per 100,000 population; 22.2% increase
  • Age 30–34 years: 265.9 per 100,000 population; 26.2% increase
  • Age 35–39 years: 167.2 per 100,000 population; 30.3% increase
  • Age 40–44 years: 94.5 per 100,000 population; 27.0% increase
