This study is helpful in the evaluation of alveolar hemorrhage, infection, airway disease, and endobronchial lesions.

Transbronchial biopsy in diffuse lung disease has a low yield of diagnostic findings, presumably because of the geographic nature of the granulomatous inflammation. Bronchoscopy may also be used as needed for palliative measures for narrowed airways (ie, stents). [55]
