Answer

Restuccia et al reported that 73 of 131 patients (56%) with biopsy-proven transmural GCA maintained complete clinical remission without elevation of inflammatory markers for at least 1 year after the withdrawal of steroids. Normal hemoglobin levels were significantly positively associated with long-term remission, while polymyalgia at the time of GCA diagnosis was significantly negatively associated with long-term remission.
