A review by Sullivan et al of HSCT for patients with scleroderma and pulmonary involvement suggested that indications for referral for HSCT in this population may include the following [159] :

  • Diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis with internal organ involvement
  • Age < 65 years
  • Disease duration < 5 years
  • Modified Rodnan skin thickness score (MRSS) >15
  • Early pulmonary involvementj, documented on High-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and pulmonary function tests (PFTs)
