In a review addressing hand function in RA patients, O’Brien suggested that strengthening hand exercises could yield significant improvements in the overall functioning of patients with this disease. [149] If surgery is not an option, medical management should be pursued in conjunction with rather thorough physical therapy in order to maintain and preserve hand function. [149]
