Imaging modalities that may be considered include the following:

  • Plain radiography (reveals findings in only 40-70% of cases)
  • Whole-body scintigraphy
  • Positron emission tomography
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially of the sacroiliac joints
  • Computed tomography (CT)
  • Ultrasonography or echocardiography
