Polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is a rare disease, with an incidence of about 3-4.5 cases per 100,000 population annually. Older estimates placed the prevalence as high as 7.7 cases per 100,000 population, for example, in a population of Alaskan Eskimos hyperendemic for HBV infection. [29]
