Bone undergoes both radial and longitudinal growth and is continually remodeled throughout our lives in response to microtrauma. [19] Bone remodeling renews bone strength and mineral, preventing the accumulation of damaged bone.  [19] Bone remodeling occurs at discrete sites within the skeleton and proceeds in an orderly fashion, and bone resorption is always followed by bone formation, a phenomenon referred to as coupling.
