MSCs can be derived from a variety of tissues, but for therapeutic purposes they are collected from bone marrow or adipose tissue. Autologous MSCs are easily harvested and used therapeutically, but allogeneic MSCs have been utilized. Delivery methods have included implantation and microfracture, but the current focus is on intra-articular injection of suspensions containing large numbers of cells. [71, 72]
