  • Severe degenerative arthritis

  • Secondary infections

  • Urate or uric acid nephropathy

  • Increased susceptibility to infection

  • Urate nephropathy

  • Renal stones

  • Nerve or spinal cord impingement

  • Fractures in joints with tophaceous gout
