Answer

Answer

Pain-reduction modalities include the following [3] :

  • Electrotherapy

  • Cryotherapy

  • Therapeutic heat - A literature review by Honda et al indicated that in patients with fibromyalgia, thermal therapy reduces pain, the number of tender points, and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire score [4]

  • Systemic administration of local anesthetics for neuropathic pain (eg, intravenous lidocaine): Use with caution; may be associated with cardiac and neurologic side effects
