Treatment is mainly supportive in nature. Ribavirin has documented in vitro activity against parainfluenza virus (PIV), and aerosolized and oral ribavirin were associated with reduction in PIV shedding and clinical improvement in immunocompromised patients. Thus, in this latter, high-risk group, the use of ribavirin may be reasonable. [94]
