Hantavirus pneumonia histopathology reveals interstitial infiltrates of T lymphocytes and alveolar pulmonary edema without marked necrosis or polymorphonuclear leukocyte involvement. This finding is consistent with the pathogenesis being mainly caused by vascular permeability increase, via an immunopathologic mechanism. [76]
