Answer

HSV pneumonia develops mainly in immunocompromised patients. The rate of HSV pneumonia can be as high as 70-80% in hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients not receiving prophylaxis, and it can be decreased to 5% with acyclovir prophylaxis. As with CMV, the mortality rate is high if disease remains untreated in immunosuppressed patients (>80% mortality). [57]
