Typical offending organisms that have been known to cause bronchiectasis include the following [17, 14] :

  • Klebsiella species

  • Staphylococcus aureus

  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis

  • Mycoplasma pneumoniae

  • Nontuberculous mycobacteria

  • Measles virus

  • Pertussis virus

  • Influenza virus

  • Herpes simplex virus

  • Certain types of adenovirus
