One study in a respiratory ICU of aspiration pneumonia found that patients were more likely to have gram-negative bacilli (57.8%), fungal infections (28.9%), and gram-positive cocci (13.3%); antibiotic resistance was common. [25] The choices of antimicrobial agents include respiratory fluoroquinolones, aminoglycoside with antipseudomonal penicillin, fourth-generation cephalosporins, imipenem, and vancomycin.
