Answer

According to a multiple treatments meta-analysis of treatments for acute mania, the most efficacious treatments are haloperidol, risperidone, and olanzapine, significantly outperforming primary mood stabilizers and other antipsychotic medications. [98] In several randomized, double-blind, controlled studies, olanzapine monotherapy was significantly more effective in treating manic or mixed episodes than haloperidol [99] or divalproex monotherapy. [100] The adjunctive use of olanzapine with divalproex or lithium, [101] or of risperidone with divalproex or lithium, was also significantly more effective than divalproex or lithium alone. [102, 103]
