The presence of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) must be evaluated by excluding the following:

  • Hyperprolactinemia due to a pituitary adenoma
  • Hyperparathyroidism due to parathyroid hyperplasia
  • Hypergastrinemia due to a gastrinoma
