Although pancreatic cancer constitutes only about 3% of all cancers in the United States, it is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths in both men and women, being responsible for 7% of all cancer-related deaths. [10]  From 2006 to 2015, the death rate from the disease in whites rose by 0.2% per year but decreased in blacks by 0.5% per year. The American Cancer Society estimates that in the United States in 2018, about 44,330 people (23,020 men and 21,310 women) will die of pancreatic cancer. [11]
