The American Cancer Society (ACS) advises the importance of protecting children from the sun because of the increased risk for cancer resulting from severe sunburns in childhood. [106]  For all individuals, regardless of age, the ACS recommends the following:

  • Wearing protective clothing when out in the sun
  • Wearing a hat that shades your face, neck, and ears
  • Wearing a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher
  • Planning outdoor activities to avoid the midday sun
  • Wearing sunglasses to protect eyes and the tender skin around them from harmful UV rays
  • Avoiding tanning booths
