The physical examination should be tailored to the differential diagnoses suggested by the history. Initial inspection should include evaluation for the following:

  • Signs of severe volume depletion (eg, anemia)

  • Obesity

  • Signs of androgen excess (eg, hirsutism)

  • Ecchymosis

  • Purpura

  • Pronounced acne
