When are imaging studies indicated in the workup of dysmenorrhea?

If pelvic pathology is suspected, the following imaging studies may be considered:

  • Abdominal or transvaginal ultrasonography

  • Hysterosalpingography

  • Intravenous pyelography

  • Computed tomography

  • Magnetic resonance imaging
