A complete physical examination should be performed. A pelvic examination is crucial for excluding uterine irregularities, cul-de-sac tenderness, or suggestive nodularities and includes the following:

  • Inspection of the external genitalia

  • Inspection of the vaginal vault

  • Inspection of the cervix

  • Bimanual examination
