Answer

Answer

The oxidative stress from ARDS generates free radicals and cytokines, leading to cellular malfunction, damage, and organ failure. On this front, use of antioxidative agents in the management of this pathophysiology is gaining popularity. One such modality is intravenous high-dose vitamin C. Although vitamin C is known to have antioxidant effects, the clinical implication of its use in the setting of ARDS from viral pneumonia is not established. There are reports of the use of high-dose intravenous vitamin C as part of treatment for ARDS associated with SARS-CoV2 infection, but there are no randomized controlled trials or concrete evidence to support its use.
