Coronavirus outbreak and pandemic

As of June 25, 2021, confirmed COVID-19 infections number over 179 million individuals worldwide and have resulted in over 3.8 million deaths. [46]

In the United States, over 33.4 million reported cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed as of June 25, 2021, resulting in over 600,000 deaths. [47]  The pandemic caused approximately 375,000 deaths in the United States during 2020. The age-adjusted death rate increased by 15.9% in 2020, making it the third leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer. [48]  Beginning in late March 2020, the United States had more confirmed infections than any other country in the world. [49] The United States also has the most confirmed deaths in the world, followed by Brazil, India, and Mexico. [46]
