The choice of therapy in metabolic alkalosis varies with the underlying cause. Depending on the may be used in specific situation, the following may be used [19] :

  • Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (eg, acetazolamide)
  • Hydrochloric acid (HCl)
  • Potassium-sparing diuretics
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
  • Potassium supplements
  • Fluid replacement
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
