Discontinue diuretics/laxatives

Use potassium-sparing diuretics if diuretic therapy is required (eg, severe heart failure)

Treat diarrhea or vomiting

Administer H2 blockers to patients receiving nasogastric suction

Control hyperglycemia if glycosuria is present
