Drugs and toxins that cause hypertension include the following:

  • Alcohol

  • Cocaine

  • Cyclosporine, tacrolimus

  • NSAIDs

  • Erythropoietin

  • Adrenergic medications

  • Decongestants containing ephedrine

  • Herbal remedies containing licorice (including licorice root) or ephedrine (and ephedra)

  • Nicotine
