The presence of the following complications generally indicates a need for urgent dialysis:

  • Metabolic acidosis

  • Pulmonary edema

  • Pericarditis

  • Uremic encephalopathy

  • Uremic gastrointestinal bleeding

  • Uremic neuropathy

  • Severe anemia and hypocalcemia

  • Hyperkalemia
