Answer

Two pneumococcal vaccines are approved in the United States; 13-valent polysaccharide conjugate vaccine (PCV13; Prevnar 13) is approved for children aged 6 weeks to 17 years and adults aged 50 years or older. The 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23; Pneumovax 23) is approved for adults aged 65 years or older and persons aged 2 years or older who are at an increased risk for pneumococcal disease.
