Pneumococcal vaccines have been shown to have some efficacy in preventing vaccine-strain pneumococcal pneumonia, bacteremia, and invasive disease. They have not been shown to prevent community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) of all kinds. [96, 97] Annual influenza vaccination has been shown to decrease pneumonia diagnoses, hospitalizations, and cardiac events in certain populations. [98, 99, 100, 101]
