Therapy in ICU patients includes the following:

  • Beta-lactam (ceftriaxone, cefotaxime, or ampicillin/sulbactam) plus either a macrolide or respiratory fluoroquinolone
  • In patients with penicillin allergy, a respiratory fluoroquinolone and aztreonam
