Answer

Answer

The definitive microbiologic etiology is determined in less than half of patients who develop community-acquired pneumonia (CAP); the exact rate depends on the patient population and diagnostic testing used. [1, 35, 36] Organisms have been traditionally classified as “typical” or “atypical” CAP pathogens depending on their ability to be detected on Gram stain or standard bacterial cultures.
