Answer

Based on a literature review, Kaper et al concluded that no studies have adequately addressed whether the effects of antibiotic therapy in recurrent acute rhinosinusitis differ from those in primary or sporadic episodes of acute rhinosinusitis. The authors concluded, therefore, that the question of whether or not to use initial antibiotic therapy in patients with recurrent episodes of the condition should be decided by employing the same criteria used to weigh the need for antibiotic treatment in patients with primary or sporadic episodes of uncomplicated acute rhinosinusitis.
