Answer

Influenza results from infection with 1 of 3 basic types of influenza virus: A, B, or C. Influenza A is generally more pathogenic than influenza B. Epidemics of influenza C have been reported, especially in young children. [19] Influenza viruses are classified within the family Orthomyxoviridae.

In the United States, as of early January 2020, influenza B/Victoria was the predominant strain during the 2019-2020 flu season, followed by A(H1N1)pdm09. Influenza A(H3N2) and B/Yamagata viruses were reported to be circulating at very low levels. [20]
