Prognosis in calcium channel blocker (CCB) toxicity depends on the following:

  • Amount and formulation of drug ingested
  • Co-ingestions
  • Patient's age
  • Underlying disease states
  • Specific treatments
  • Initial cardiac rhythm
  • Time elapsed before treatment begins
  • Specific treatments
  • Use of a pacemaker and time before it is placed

In 2019, the American Association of Poison Control Centers (AAPCC) reported that calcium channel blockers (CCBs) were the sixth leading cause of fatality. [12]
