These are processes that typically cause exudative effusions, but may cause transudative effusions.

  • Amyloidosis

  • Chylothorax

  • Constrictive pericarditis

  • Hypothyroid pleural effusion

  • Malignancy

  • Pulmonary embolism

  • Sarcoidosis

  • Superior vena cava obstruction

  • Trapped lung
