What are the causes of refractory erysipelas?

In refractory cases, causes may include the following:

  • Unusual organisms

  • Streptococcal or staphylococcal resistance to the selected antimicrobial therapy

  • More severe conditions (eg, necrotizing fasciitis, myonecrosis)
