Most cases of CSD are caused by Bartonella henselae.Bartonella species are small pleomorphic, fastidious, facultative, gram-negative, and intracellular bacilli. Infection appears to confer lifelong immunity, as reports of recurrences of clinical catscratch disease are rare. [23]
