  • A bandlike upper dermal infiltrate of lymphocytes and other inflammatory cells, with no grenz zone, is present

  • Epidermotropism of mononuclear cells occurs

  • Little spongiosis of the epidermis is found.

  • Lymphocytes have nuclei that are hyperchromatic and convoluted or cerebriform
