A retrospective cohort study reviewed the records of 3,273 HIV-positive women receiving prenatal care in Malawi and Mozambique from July 2005 to December 2009. Patients were treated with triple antiviral therapy during pregnancy until 6 months postpartum for prevention of vertical transmission. Regardless of CD4 count, ART provided a protective effect against mortality, fetal demise, and premature birth. [142]
