Vertical transmission

Prevention measures include the following:

  • Maternal testing

  • Effective control of maternal infection

  • Prenatal antiviral therapy and treatment of mother and infant during labor, delivery, and the neonatal period

  • Cesarean delivery

  • Avoidance of breastfeeding (unless local conditions make this unsafe or unfeasible)
