Answer

A more recent study found that elderly MDS patients (n=63) with unfavorable features for response to erythropoietin alone had a 60% erythroid response rate to combination treatment with erythropoietin, isotretinoin, and vitamin D. Long-term follow-up showed a median erythroid response duration of 17 months, with 20% of patients still in response after 6 years of therapy—a longer duration than has been documented in most studies of treatment with erythropoietin alone.
