Fluid retention and hyponatremia are common complications of DDAVP therapy. Consequently, most treatment centers recommend weight-based fluid restriction, particularly in patients undergoing surgery, along with monitoring of serum sodium levels in children younger than 2 years and in patients receiving repeated doses of DDAVP.
