Answer

In a single-institution review of 133,671 transfusions, Oakley et al reported an incidence of 6.2 reactions per 1000 transfusions in pediatric patients (age < 21 years) versus 2.4 reactions per 1000 transfusions in adults. While incidence of reactions was the same between sexes in adults, in pediatric patients, reactions were more common in males than in females (7.9/1000 versus 4.3/1000, respectively). [39]
