Infectious or inflammatory conditions to consider include the following:

  • Recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Urethral diverticulum
  • Infected Bartholin gland or Skene gland
  • Vulvovestibulitis
  • Tuberculous/eosinophilic cystitis
  • Vaginitis (eg, bacterial, viral [eg, herpes])
  • Schistosomiasis
