Preexposure chemoprophylaxis with antiretroviral medications is a concept that has been widely recognized as a potential way to prevent new infections among those at risk. This article aims to give the rationale and discuss the potential of antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent transmission of HIV-1 infection.
